Nutrition and Your Health

Nutrition is a very intricate subject, not only in terms of the complex way in which the human body interacts with nutrients, but also in terms of how difficult it can be to find accurate information on the subject.

A person’s health depends not only on diet, but also on lifestyle, levels of physical activity, emotions, social and economic conditions, and many other factors. There is not one diet that is right for everyone: each person is different and it is important to take in consideration an individual’s needs, food preferences, genetic makeup, psychology, stress level and so on.

All organs and body systems work together; for this reason, an imbalance in one part of the body can affect the rest. Chemical substances, nutrients, and compounds interact and affect each other.

Why Is a Nutritional Consultant Important?

  • Proven relation between diet and health
  • Observed increases in degenerative diseases due to poor nutrition
  • Growing awareness of the potential of preventive medicine to improve health
  • Greater interest in food products labelled as “quality”, “local”, “natural”, “organic”
  • Loss of knowledge of traditional ways to grow and prepare food
  • Contrasting, at times even misleading, information about food and nutrition
  • Need to learn about safe food handling methods to avoid acquiring food-borne diseases and unintentionally transforming wholesome ingredients into toxic substances
  • Need for awareness of chemicals and other dangerous substances present in some food and environments, in order to minimize daily exposure and risk
  • Importance of being informed about modern food production systems and their potential impacts on our health, food security and sustainability.
